Lets do some shots!

Its Friday and I, like many of you (hopefully) will be at the bar tonight, although I'm betting some of you will be at a different type of bar ;)  So what better to discuss than SHOTS!

Whats that? Oh, these weren't the kind of shots you had in mind, huh?  LOL sorry about that, but I'm a complete and total germ-a-phobe and I hate when I see people coughing at the gym, although I have gone to the gym while sick, I was not coughing!  A huge part of getting fit is about getting healthy, and if you're sick why to the gym and contaminate the healthy, right? And what kind of FitFriend would I be if I didn't help you try to stay healthy!! If you think you're starting to feel sick or know someone who might be getting sick, give these a whirl! (I wonder if that Cayenne pepper will help with my seasonal allergy congestion, hmmm...)
Wellness Juice Shot Recipe
Ingredients:
3 stalks CELERY
1 Granny Smith APPLE
1 LEMON, slice off peel but leave on pith (white part)
2-inch piece fresh GINGER ROOT
CAYENNE PEPPER
Directions:
Juice in juicer. Top each shot with a few dashes of cayenne pepper. Makes approx 1.5 cups.
Notes:
Organic produce is preferable. If not organic, peel the apple.

I plan to give this a whirl really soon, but if one of you beats me to it, let me know what you think!

Oh and I'm starting Crossfit classes next week! Wish me luck, or pray for me!!  I might even try to double up (See, I'm serious about this 2 a day thing!) and do some cardio later in the day too, because I'm crazy like that!

Lord Jesus its a Gut!: Ain't nobody got time for that!

So I have a confession, I've been on a junk food bender since mid December. I guess this isn't really news if you've been reading my blog.  However, what might be shocking is the denial I've been in.  I didn't think it was catching up to me, or else I deluded myself into thinking I could out exercise my bad diet.  That was until I saw this...

Every now and again RR will record me so that I can see my form (whether its good or bad), because when you're lifting especially when you're lifting heavy good form is important.  He wanted me to look at my form but all I see in that video is my gut.  It just plays in slow motion in my head.  It gave me nightmares last night. (ok now I'm just being dramatic) But I went from this

          and this

to that. Its upsetting because it means I've undone a lot of hard work for some junk I don't even remember eating. But fortunately its the kick in the pants I needed to finally do the 2 things I've been talking about doing but not really doing.  The first and most important is to actually fix this sloppy diet of mine, and the second is to do more cardio.

You might be wondering why I'm not planning to rush out and do a bunch of sit ups, or posting an ab day workout.  Its not because I'm holding out on your guys, (I swear!) its because I don't really do abs.  I have good core strength and I do, do ab workouts.

The secret to a flat tummy/6 pack abs is really a 2.5-3 step process.

Step 1: Build Core Strength (BKA- Muscle)
I personally, already have step one (more or less) taken care of.  When I was in high school, I fell in love with Tammy Lee Web's Abs of Steel video. (Did I just age myself there?)

I did it EVERY night, until I reached the point where I could do all 3 sections in a row.  I still have the VHS and bought DVD of it last summer when I needed more ab strength for Aerials.  I still do it every now and again, but not like I used to.  If you don't have much core strength I strongly encourage you to get Abs of Steel DVD or just follow along with this youtube video until it gets easy, then get the DVD and start doing the other sections. Its old, its basic, her outfits/music/hair are cheesy but IT WORKS!  Trust me!

Step 2. Burn fat
Since I already have the muscle, I want to burn the fat sitting on top of it. The trick to that is to

2a. Limit my intake of fatty sugary foods that will only turn into more fat, and
2b.  Cardio to burn off the fat that's already there.

Fixing your diet really should be a step all on its own, since its the most important and will yield the most dramatic results but since I'm feeling lazy we're going to call it a half a step. Let the uphill battle begin!

Motivation and a little drool

I've been backsliding again, the number on my scale keeps going up and up.  Its strictly the result of my diet, I'm in the middle of a binge and I know it.  But I'm not quitting!!!  I'm seriously considering trying to fit in 2 workouts a day so I can get more cardio in.  Who does that?!?! Thats crazy talk!!

I recently upgraded my broken Fitbit Ultra to a Fitbit One. I have no real complaints because my new Fitbit One is doing everything I originally bought a Fitbit to do; track my activities and help keep me motivated to move more throughout the day, and a morning jog would help me do that....

Fitbit One

I must admit, I'm not much of a runner. So while I love my Fitbit, it, like most of the current devices on the market; the Fitbit products, Nike Fuel band, and the Jawbone Up, which are mostly pedometers.  So I know they won't give me an accurate picture of my calories burned and fitness level.  I could do a set of 25 squats at 160 lbs (which is not something I'm not currently capable of doing, without a GREAT spot and a lot of whining) and the Fitbit will treat it almost the same as if I'm sitting at my desk at work typing a blog post.  Despite the fact that my heart rate is up, I'm breathing hard and sweating profusely.  So I was really excited when I stumbled across this PopSugar article for the new...

UnderArmor ARMOUR39™ MODULE & CHEST STRAP

I'm stupid excited about this, according to Under Armor's website its perfect for my lifestyle!!! Its discreet, seems like it will be easy to hide in any outfit, unless of course I'm running around in a sports bra or bikini.  But since its not completely waterproof (it can't be submerged in water, so no swimming!) the odds of me wearing it with a bikini are slim to none.

But I'm in love with it sight unseen because it detects your body's biometric info and calculates data based on that instead of the number and rate of steps you're taking.  Unfortunately, it won't be out for a while, but I really want one.  I would love to slap it on and compare the data it gives me while I lift or do aerials to the data my Fitbit One records.

Sucker for new gadgets,
